Success Story : Tamara Dillon
Tamara Dillon, Age 35, Member of K-Star fitness since April, 2008." If I could only lose the weight" is the start of a sentence I have said a million times before.
About 15 years and over 100 pounds ago, I was 20 years old and in the best shape I have ever been. I exercised daily and made decent meal choices. What I remember the most, though, was how great I felt about just being me. So, how did I gain over 100 pounds in 15 years? Well, besides life happens, I ran out of excuses, which I don't think were any good anyway, so I won't try to offer one. I just did.
After having my second child in October 2006, I was at my highest weight ever. I knew I had to do something, but after all those years of struggling, and trying just about every diet out there, I felt lost. I painfully lacked confidence but the worst feeling was remembering how it once felt to look and feel great. It hurt terribly that the person I felt I still was inside didn't look like the person looking back at me in the mirror.
In April 2008, a remarkable fitness opportunity presented itself where K-Star Fitness was a major sponsor. At K-Star Fitness, I learned not only how to take the weight off, but how to keep it off by fueling my body with the proper balance of foods it required as well as a combination of strength and cardio training. As cliché as it may sound, and the first thing I learned, is losing weight is not about what the current diet craze is…it's about establishing a real lifestyle change. Does that mean I live an existence of brown rice and vegetables? Or, that I am bulking up my muscles? NO WAY! I eat well balanced meals and the strength training I am doing is making my muscles leaner which in turn burns more fat weight. Finally, another key aspect to achieving weight loss goals is the understanding between fat pounds and scale pounds. I no longer care what the "scale" says. What matters to me are the fat pounds I have, or rather, no longer have! I attend 3 group fitness classes per week at K-Star Fitness. Never have I experienced a more fun, non-intimidating, social environment for working out.
During the workouts, which vary every time, Mary and Ron are right there to tell you how to perfect your form or to let you know when you are doing great! After only 1 hour of your time, this high intense training leaves you feeling fatigued, but 100% satisfied of a job well done! So, how well does the K-Star Fitness workout program work? Please consider this…between Oct, 2006 and April 2008 (18 months) I lost 7 pounds. Between April, 2008, which is when I started at K-Star, and October, 2008 (only 6 months later!), I have lost 55 pounds…and counting! Yes, the K-Star Fitness workout program works!
On a final note, Mary once said to me, "We can help you." That simple statement was so powerful it instilled a belief in me that this was the time it was going to happen. I was about to embark on a journey to find myself and live the life I longed for. At this time, I am just over half way to my goal weight. In place of the pounds I have lost in this short period of time, I gained a tremendous confidence as well as a great deal of strength, both physically and
mentally.
As for that person I am always looking to find in the mirror? Well, she's peeking at me. With Mary and Ron's help, I know we will be face-to-face once again.
