Metabolic Testing
Metabolism is the chemical and physiological processes by which the body builds and maintains itself and by which it breaks down food and nutrients to produce energy. Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the amount of calories your body needs to sustain life in a resting state. If we use an analogy, liken your metabolism as to that of a bon fire. We’ve all enjoyed the warmth, heat, and energy that an effective bon fire gives off. When our metabolism is working optimally, it should be just like that great bon fire. We’re performing with great efficiency and steadfastness. Now what happens to the bon fire if no one attends to it? The flames, heat, and energy start to diminish. If the bon fire continues to be ignored, it will eventually burn itself out. Let’s assume we still want to enjoy the bon fire. What do we have to do? Obviously, we have to put more fuel on the fire. If we pour gasoline on it, it burns too hot too soon or if we put a wet green sapling on it, it won’t burn properly at all. By feeding the fire with the proper amount and types of fuel, it’ll continue to burn efficiently. So it is with your metabolism. By feeding your body at the proper times with the proper types and amounts of fuel you’ll have optimal energy levels throughout your day! Why do I need to know about my Metabolism? Your metabolism is by far your primary source for burning calories! The higher your resting metabolism becomes, the more calories your body burns at rest. The more calories your body burns at rest means the more fat you burn from your fat stores. As your body composition improves, (lean muscle to fat ratios), through proper exercise and nutrition, you’ll find yourself having more energy, feeling stronger, adding years to your life, and significantly lowering your chances for heart disease, strokes, etc. Wouldn’t it be wise to under go a simple 10 to 12 minute sit down test to determine your own personal resting metabolic rate? Each person has a different rate unique to them. Knowing your exact resting metabolic rate will determine exactly how many calories one should consume per day. Consuming the proper amounts of calories helps to keep one’s weight under control. Who should consider taking a Metabolic Test?
